Urban Sedated was founded by Chief in 1999 to help support and promote unsigned and independent musicians, artists and DJs. In 2007 Neil Wetherall, founder of Afro Promoter a Hong Kong based company set up to promote African music in Asia returned to the UK and joined up with Urban Sedated. We instantly started work on restructuring as a fair trade record label promoting urban music from around the world.

Urban Sedated is committed to scanning the world for the best music out there, on our artist pages you will find a global selection of world music, reggae, hip hop and dancehall. In our shop you will find a selection of music for sale from classic world music along with the latest global beats.

Urban Sedated is a record label dedicated to fair trade

As a label we operate an equal exchange policy, giving the artist 50% of the sales, directly opposed to the 7-12% from a standard record contract. The artist retains the copyright of their music (Authors rights) and enters into a non-exclusive agreement allowing us to promote and sell their music.

Music selected by music lovers

The music on the site is selected by Urban Sedated Soundsystem DJ's and the Experimental Vibe Tribe. Our resident DJ's have been playing to audiences around the world since 1988. Along with regular DJ slots they selected the tunes for Sedated Radio, an internet radio station which ran 24hrs a day for 2 years playing an infectious mix of world music, global reggae, hip hop and dub. They also supply the music for the Outer Regions Cafe, a fair trade organic cafe which tours the UK festival circuit promoting global food, music and culture.
