In 1988, founder members Matt Foord and Pauleigh Rutherford (a.k.a Sticks) started a night in the Lyon Rouge under the name, Artful Dodgers. The method behind the musical madness was a selection of tunes that ranged right across the spectrum (a kind of ambient style affair mixed with prog rock and dub.) After the recruitment of Shaky, the Experimental Vibe Tribe nights began and evolved throughout the 90's with new influences coming in from India and the South East Asia party scene.

At the end of the 90's, the Tribe lost their direction due the loss of the late and greatly missed Simon Holloway (Shaky) who tragically passed away while traveling in India. After some time out they resurfaced in 2000 recruiting the talents of Dean Beadle (also known as Plainlazy producer of the classic tracks ceremony and free it) and Chief (Medicine Mon).

They started a night in the Golden Lion, Soho called Frivolous which run for over a year alongside Sunday Roast at the Comedy, Leicester Square and Saturday night monthly at the Admiral Hardy, Greenwich. In 2002 The Vibe Tribe met Pete Lawrence (Big Chill) in Naxos where they played a five hour session on the decks, and went on to play at the Big Chill festival and are now regulars at the Big Chill Bar, London. These days the ever growing Vibe Tribe have spawned the globe, Sticks is relocating to Australia to set up base and Chief is moving to Brittany.

What separates the Vibe Tribe from other DJ outfits is their ability to discover new music of all styles and merge it together as one. Change is good. We change to evolve and evolve they will, as they have done over the past 20 years. In the meantime look out for DJ sets by Foordy and keep an eye on Plainlazy who are still actively flying the Vibe Tribe flag.

Spinning both CD's and vinyl, the Vibe Tribe get special attention for their seamless,
artistic and smooth diverse style. To describe their sound is not the simplest of tasks,
they are a very unique DJ outfit and direct reference points are hard to nail down. Each
performance is unique as the Vibe Tribe's talent for connecting with the dance floor
changes with each venue. They do, however, maintain consistency through their
